“Many people still don't know they have a choice other than a religious or civil ceremony. Or that a celebrant-led wedding is a creative, easy, and personal alternative.”

What is a celebrant?

A celebrant is a wedding professional who will work closely with you, then write and lead your wedding ceremony. Pub Wedding London works with recommended celebrants that are a mix of Humanist celebrants and Independent celebrants.

A Humanist celebrant focuses on you and your unique couple story. They create and lead inclusive and highly personal ceremonies, ceremonies created by Humanist celebrants are non-religious in tone and would not, usually, include religious content. Humanist celebrants are recruited through a selection process, trained, accredited and regularly peer reviewed through Humanists UK.

Independent celebrants also create highly personalised ceremonies, and they may choose to enrol on professional development courses through a variety of training providers. An independent celebrant might include religious content on request.  All celebrants are small business owners, and so their styles and approach to creating ceremonies and their fees differ.

At Pub Wedding London, we advise you to contact a few celebrants that appeal to you, arrange a free chat with them to learn more e.g. ask how they work and their fee - and then make your decision about who to book.

My name is Roy Coleman and I am an independent Professional Celebrant providing services in London and the South East.
My job is to guide you through what may be a daunting, often overwhelming, experience whether that be a wedding, a naming ceremony or a funeral.

There are no ‘must-haves’ in a celebrant-led ceremony:

Celebrants will have different approaches to how they create your ceremony.

A celebrant will write your wedding ceremony to your taste – some ceremonies will be more traditional, and some will create a 100% personal ceremony from scratch. If it’s important that your ceremony is for and about you, and reflects your personality and interests, then you should be reassured that your celebrant can deliver this for you before booking them.

Legal aspect

In England and Wales, celebrant-led weddings are not yet legally recognised – so you will need to arrange your legal paperwork separate to your wedding ceremony. It costs around £60 for a statutory legal recognition at a registry office, and you should ask for this by name as it is not always advertised by the relevant local authority. With the legal paperwork taken care of before or after your preferred ceremony date, you can focus on what’s important – your wedding ceremony!

If you do want to have a legal wedding ceremony that includes the legal paperwork, you can do this at The Prince Albert or Adam & Eve, depending on the availability of your registrar to attend your ceremony.

Celebrant-led weddings can take place at all of our Pub Wedding London venues.
