Why you should have a fragrance for your wedding day.
Scents are a time old tool for creating and unlocking memories. This isn’t just a myth, there are actually numerous scientific factors backing this notion. I have always been instantly attracted to certain smells, whether that be freshly cut grass just after its rained or the fragrance of my romantic interest. There is something inherent within me that’s drawn to a scent, allowing me to be transported back to a certain time in my life.
When I attended a wedding back in the summer, the first thing that smacked me in the face was the smell of Peonies (Which just so happen to be my favourite flower). To my surprise, I later found out it wasn’t coming from the wonderful bouquets of fresh flowers strewn across the entirety of the venue. The essence was in fact emanating from diffusers and candles that had be carefully placed around the room. The scent was strong, but not overpowering, and did the perfect job of etching the memory of the day into my mind forever.
This isn’t all about your guests though. Having a special fragrance for your day can act as a highly emotive device for you as a couple. Imagine being at home together, 2 years after the day you were wed, lighting your wedding candle, and immediately being cast back in time to walking down the aisle or having your first dance. I think if not only to create a highly immersive, multi layered atmosphere for your guests. It would be a miss to not take this opportunity to be a little bit selfish and do this for yourselves!
After some research I have found out that there is such thing as a ‘Fragrance Wheel’ which is split into 4 different categories: Floral, Oriental, Fresh & Woody. These then split off into smaller, more nuanced divisions, so there is plenty of scope for you to play around and use your ingenuity. Popular wedding scents often include a mix of florals and subtle, elegant notes. Some favourites include:
1. Roses: Classic and romantic, roses are a timeless choice.
2. Lavender: Known for its calming properties, lavender adds a touch of serenity.
3. Peonies: These lush, fragrant flowers are associated with romance and prosperity.
4. Vanilla: Warm and sweet, vanilla adds a comforting and inviting element.
5. Sandalwood: A woody and earthy scent that brings a sense of sophistication.
6. Jasmine: Exotic and floral, jasmine can contribute to a dreamy atmosphere.
Ultimately, the choice depends on personal preferences and the desired ambiance for the wedding. Couples often select scents that hold special meaning to them or create a mood that aligns with the overall theme of their celebration. So, in a nutshell take this as your sign to get your creative juices flowing and make something magical for your special day. Why not take it to the next level and make fragranced wedding favours for your guests so they can take them home and join you in reliving your incredible day?
